The smallest in the world supercomputer

10 September 2007

Inventors declare that created by them Microwulf system “pleno jure” can claim for a rank of the most compact and inexpensive supercomputer in the world.

This solution is based on four motherboards intended for installation of binuclear processors. 8-port switchboard Gigabit Ethernet is responsible for connection between boards. Productivity of the system makes 26.25 gigaflops in a second. For comparison it is necessary to mention, that well-known “chess” supercomputer Deep Blue created by IBM, shows twice smaller computation speed.

The total cost of the component parts used in Microwulf has made approximately 2470 dollars, thus, founders of system have managed to achieve a record ratio between the price and productivity (less than 100 dollars for gigaflop), mark Pclaunches.com.
