Hitachi has developed 100 GB Blu-ray-disk
10 October 2007The Japanese manufacturer of electronics, Hitachi has informed about the development of four-layer Blu-ray-disk, containing 100 GB that is twice higher than capacity of the standard drive, informs PCPRO.co.uk.
Companies TDK and Panasonic have informed earlier, that they have managed to achieve similar recording density, but developed by them disks demanded special optical heads for reading. Hitachi disks, on the other hand, can be played on the existing equipment – and only with over-weaving which will add ability of four layers reading.
100 GB BD prototype has been presented during CEATEC exhibition in Tokyo. At the moment experts of the company work on stabilization of signal quality. When such disks will appear on sale was not informed, though commercial realization is planned.
