Sony produces second generation Blu-ray-drive

Sonу Electronics has announced computer Blu-ray-drive of second generation BWU-200S, able to record BD-R disks on 4х speed and DVD±R on 16x speed. The device records BD-R twice faster, than drives of the last generation, - burning of 50-GB Blu-ray-disk takes about 45 minutes.

The drive is made in 5,25 inches form-factor with SATA interface and is supplied with CyberLink BD software. It allows to copy video with resolution 1080i pixels from videocameras, create and edit films, to preview them and record on laser disks. One 50 GB BD-R can contain to 230 minutes of video with the specified resolution.

BWU-200S supports recording of single-layer 4,7 GB DVD±R/RW and DVD-RAM, 8,5 GB two-layer DVD±R, and also usual compact discs. The drive is compatible with Windows XP and Vista operational systems and is supported by Adobe Encore CS3 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 software.

The device will appear on sale in November at the price of $600. One may make an order already now on the site of the company.
