Europeans give preference to Blu-ray
30 November 2007Europeans, as well as Americans, give preference to Blu-ray High Definition format, which has been shown by the statistical data. From the beginning of the year more than 1 million Blu-ray-disks (BD) has been sold in Europe, that has made about 73 % of all sold high definition carriers. HD DVD sales have made 27 %, informs Reuters referring to research of Media Control Gfk.
According to data of Blu-ray Disc Association, for 2007 it has been sold 1 million of Blu-ray-disks with films. The general amount of optical carriers in this format made for sale in Europe has exceeded 21 million from the beginning of year. As it is known, Sony PlayStation3 has built-in Blu-ray-drive.
Hollywood together with electronics’ manufacturers hopes that the new high definition format will reanimate the sluggish DVD-market. But coming into being of a new format is slowed down by that fact, that there are two competing formats in the world.
According to the other research which has been conducted in the USA, Americans also are inclined to get Blu-ray-disks. It has been sold 1,4 million HD DVD and about 2,6 million BD for the period from January, 1 till September, 30, 2007 in the USA. According to analysts it is too early to speak about a victory of this or that format.
