AMD has created the first videocard of the future
13 December 2007AMD has developed the first computer videocard with support of new generation interface DisplayPort on the basis of the processor RV635 XT. It is expected to be put on the market in the beginning of 2008. Approximately the same time another large vendor company Nvidia is going to launch a similar product.
One of these days the working variant of a card has come into the hands of Hot Hardware’s enthusiasts. Unfortunately, characteristics concerning this video card are unknown. Clock frequency of RV635 XT processor makes 800 MHz. The next year on the basis of this chip the company plans to produce a new videocard ATI Radeon HD 3600. According to some informal sources, the capacity of videomemory will make 256 MB.
DisplayPort technology has been developed by organization VESA and is offered to replace DVI, VGA and HDMI. The technology has a number of advantages. First, it is data throughput. Second, DisplayPort allows to carry out simultaneous transfer of the various data through one cable.
Basically, the technology is intended for the computer market. According to Dell’s official representatives, who has shown LCD-monitor of the future in May, the success of the new standard will entirely depend on manufacturers of videocards.
