The new Intel technology will enable long distances Wi-Fi - signal transmission
4 April 2007The system developed by Intel Research Berkeley laboratory workers, will allow to transmit a signal more than a hundred kilometers and does not demand updating of hardware base. The organizations can use existing Wi-Fi - equipment, supplied with the new software. Points of wireless access with a new software can transmit the network traffic on a chain through some aerials with the orientation controlled diagram to reach finally the fiber-optic connection channel providing access to the Internet.
Invention is focused on developing countries for which development of a high-grade WiMAX-infrastructure is an excessive task. For comparison, cost of one WiMAX base station makes 15 thousand dollars while the described WiFi-retransmitter will cost 700-800 dollars, informs http://www.engadget.com.
