1 June 2007Satellite navigation every year more intensively joins our routine daily life. There is a huge set of various portable navigators in the market. But all of them are intended for work with the American system of global positioning GPS – the only satellite system available for civilians.
Garmin Company was the first to prepare for revolution, having announced hybrid GPS Galileo-navigators. Novelties belong to eTrex series and are remarkable for the compact sizes and the water-proof case. All model line has 24 Mb of internal memory, USB ports, 12-channel GPS-receiver with system of exact coordination on WAAS stations, a routing computer and diary.
The sizes of displays vary from 1.3 up to 2.1 inches. Navigators work from two AA- batteries. It is informed, that support of signals from Galileo satellites is laid at a hardware level (drop-in chip principle), that will allow to tune navigators for work as soon as the European satellite system is launched.
Price of GPS Galileo-receivers eTrex will make from $111 up to $295, depending on a model.
Let’s remind that Galileo’s work is based on the network from 30 satellites which, as the developers plan, should completely guarantee the demand of the EU countries in the navigation information. The launch of Galileo project is planned for 2012.
