Pentium E2160/2140 and Core 2 Quad

6 July 2007

Processors Core 2 Duo for the time being have no competitors neither on productivity, nor on power consumption. Intel continues its work: according to some information, shortly Pentium E2160/2140 and Core 2 Quad QX6800 chips will receive new stepping.
Inexpensive binuclear Pentium E2160/2140 will pass from L2 on M0.
The basic changes:
CPUID will change from 6F2 to 6FD
Power consumption in an unoperable mode will decrease from 12 up to 8 watt
Temperature handling ability of the case will increase from 61,4 to 73,2 C.
Flagman tetracyclic processors Core 2 Quad QX6800 will pass from stepping B3 to G0.
Differences:
CPUID will change from 06F7 to 06FB
Temperature handling ability of the case will be raised by 9,7 degrees
New stepping processors will work without problems on the existing motherboard without BIOS updating. Overclockers may hope for some increase in acceleration potential of new chips - a temperature threshold is now higher.
